Alaska Tonewood - Qualities Found In Our Premium Tonewood
“Tonewood is defined as the component of a stringed musical instrument that acts as the instrument’s soundboard. On hollow-bodied guitars, the soundboard is the top surface. The qualities manufacturers of stringed instruments prize when purchasing Tonewood are; clear fiber, vertical grain, close growth ring spacing, color and consistency throughout the piece.”
The color of our tonewood is a striking white with a shiny luster indicative of Sitka Spruce. Our premium stock is finely grained and has growth lines wavering no more than 1/2 inch from top to bottom of the bolt. We ship clear wood with absolutely no knotting. We cut no less than 36” rounds (unless a particularly outstanding grain is present in the round or a special order). We provide Violin bolts (billets), Mandolin bolts, Cello bolts, as well as Double Bass bolts and occasionally even Piano wood. Custom cuts are welcomed, just ask!
Our Superior Master Grade, Master Grade, AAA, and AA woods will make an outstanding choice for your next project. We currently carry Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Port Orford White Cedar, Red Alder and some Yew Wood.
